Maison Christian Faure

This hidden gem was recommended to us by the hotel staff and it was one of the best places we ate in Montreal. Maison Christian Faure is a bakery located in Old Town Montreal. It is not a restaurant, but they offer a selection of items you can eat at their shop and have a small breakfast option. They also have a lunch selection as well, but I never had the opportunity to sampled it. Maison Christian Faure is not a large shop, but it is very charming. It can be a bit of a challenge to find the first time you go there, even though it is just off a main street. The decorations reminded me of most modern hip bakeries you can find around any major city, with a mural on the wall, and modern Scandinavian furniture. The staff was friendly and fairly helpful.  We went back there several times and every bite was delicious. The macarons were wonderful, with rich flavors and vibrate colors. Medium Rare

Medium Rare is easily one of my favorite restaurants in DC. It is steak restaurant with two locations and is one of the best places for dinner. I have been told it is great for brunch, though I have not tried it yet Medium Rare is a bit unusual when it comes to dinner menu, as it offers exactly one meal. This is bread and butter; a salad; steak (culotte cut only) with their secret sauce; and fries. You also have a small selection of desserts as well. As you can imagine, with a menu this small, the food has to be great and it truly is. The steak is perfectly cooked, the sauce rich and flavorful, and the thin cut fries are a great addition (though even better once you pour some of the extra sauce they give you over them). Plus, by keeping the menu so small, they are able to keep the prices down too. You get all of that for about 20 dollars (not including drinks or the desserts) and it worth every penny.
